Recuperacion de solventes solubles en agua con gas inerte

Los disolventes solubles en agua, por el contrario, requieren un fluido con el que no se mezclen: por ello se prefiere el vapor al nitrógeno, que es un gas inerte que, a diferencia del disolvente a recuperar, siempre permanece gaseoso en las condiciones de temperatura y presión de funcionamiento de una instalación de recuperación de disolventes. A continuación, el nitrógeno se calienta, transfiriendo a su vez el calor al carbón activado; cuando el disolvente se desprende del carbón activado, en fase gaseosa, se envía a una unidad de enfriamiento y posterior condensación, en la que solo se condensa el disolvente y la poca agua retenida por los carbones activados y contenida en la humedad del aire que se ha depurado.

El disolvente puede reutilizarse como tal o deshidratarse o destilarse.

La ventaja de usar nitrógeno como fluido de regeneración es también que mantiene un ambiente inerte en el que no es posible conseguir una atmósfera explosiva, como se puede ver en el artículo del Instituto Nacional del Seguro de Accidentes de Trabajo.

El uso de gas inerte hace que la instalación de recuperación de disolventes sea ciertamente más compleja y más cara que una que utilice vapor, pero evita la necesidad de instalar una instalación adicional para el tratamiento del agua obtenida de la condensación del vapor: de hecho, de este modo, no se produce agua que se deba eliminar. El nitrógeno puede obtenerse de los proveedores de gases técnicos o también puede autoproducirse instalando un generador de nitrógeno, que permite producir nitrógeno separándolo del aire que respiramos.

En determinadas circunstancias, la regeneración con gas inerte también puede llevarse a cabo aplicando un ligero vacío, lo que facilita la liberación de los disolventes del carbón activado y reduce así la energía necesaria para calentar los carbones.
